本片根据张乐平先生同名漫画《三毛从军记》改编而成。 在战争时期，无家可归的三毛参了军。新兵训练开始，矮小的三毛穿着“巨大”的军服站在队列中，显得十分滑稽。军营的生活让三毛一时不能适应，还有一些人故意捉弄三毛，让三毛闹出了许多笑话。但是，三毛凭借自己的机智、勇敢，努力地在部队中生存了下去。三毛做过勤务兵、炊事兵，做事十分勤奋，但也常常好心办坏事，好在部队中有很多善良的人帮助他，克服难关。 作战期间，三毛虽然个子小，但是有勇有谋。歪打正着，虽然闹了些笑话，出了些洋相，但在紧急关头，却也立了大功，成了小英雄。。In Alexandria, in 1938, Darley, a young British schoolmaster and poet, makes friends through Pursewarden, the British consular officer, with Justine, the beautiful and mysterious wife of a Coptic banker.
