本作由井上刚担任导演，与NHK四月播出的剧集《地震之后》共享故事框架，同时新增场景重新剪辑而成。该片基于村上春树短篇小说集《神的孩子全跳舞》中四则短篇，讲述关于丧失与重生的故事。描绘1995年阪神淡路大地震后，四个在不同时代与地域背负孤独生存之人的命运交织，最终与当下产生联结的历程。。Based on a true story of the American Civil War, culminating at the Battle of New Market, May 1864. A group of teenage cadets sheltered from war at the Virginia Military Institute must confront the horrors of an adult world when they are called upon to defend the Shenandoah Valley.
