天赋一身武术天才的Sen自小与母亲Sin相依为命。Sin因与日本黑帮头目Masashi相恋，两人被泰国黑道中人视为眼中钉，誓要除之而后快。Masashi为保性命，不得已回归日本。Sin母女四处逃避，却依然难逃黑帮魔掌。Sen是自闭症患者，不懂与人沟通，却拥有灵敏听觉，而且对复杂动作过目不忘。她目睹母亲常被欺凌，于是凭着超越常人的武术天份，无师自通，练就一副超凡身手。Sin患上癌症，急需巨款求医，Sen为让母亲活命，决意从黑帮份子手上，用拳头取回母亲昔日借予他们的钱。另一方面，Sin唯恐女儿遭黑帮毒手，只好向身在日本的Masashi求助。Masashi为救妻女，决定重回泰国……。山田日後承認在開拍此片之前，已心諳渥美清的肺病步入末期，決定此章為最後一章，並安排由淺丘瑠璃子演的莉莉送寅次郎踏上人生的最後一程。分別15年後，兩人於如詩如畫的奄美大島重逢，感情依舊，鬥氣繼續，沒完沒了似的。正如山田所想，雖然系列必須完結，但始終不想為寅次郎的故事／人生劃上句號。結局如常開放，代表寅一直繼續他的旅程，日本人依然有夢。 公映後翌年，渥美清病逝，享年68歲，本片亦成為他的遺作。 Yamada knew before production began that Atsumi's health has deteriorated to such an extent that Tora-san to the Rescue would be the last film in the series.
