辛亥革命后，新疆成立了共和政府。流浪异国的维吾尔族达瓦孜（走大绳）艺人们在卡德尔的带领下回到祖国。遇上警察巡长夏克尔奉长大人之命暗杀道台王大人。而暗杀手谕被达瓦孜艺人捡到。夏克尔不断给艺人们制造麻烦，并绑架了卡德尔养女祖哈拉。卡德尔救出养女，掩护祖哈拉逃出险境。阴险的长大人批准艺人演出，准备暗下毒手。紧要关头，卡德尔向乡民揭露长大人恶行。混战中卡德尔被刺中。祖哈拉被亲生父救走。达瓦孜艺人继续艰险的历程。。Edwin Antony (Hywel Bennett) is emasculated in an accident which kills a young philanderer. Doctors successfully replace his member with that of the dead man, but refuse to tell him the full story of the organ's origin.
